Today marks an exciting new chapter at Trulight Ministries as we celebrate the launch of our new Adult Literacy Program in Zanesville, Ohio!
We are blessed to welcome our first four students as they begin a 15-week journey focused on improving reading, writing, confidence, life skills, and spiritual growth.
At Trulight Ministries, we intentionally keep each literacy class small, with just four students at a time. This allows our team to provide personal attention, encouragement, and individualized support to every student.
Meeting People Where They Are
Many of the individuals who come through the doors of Trulight Ministries are experiencing homelessness, poverty, or other difficult life circumstances.
Some adults have struggled with reading for years and may be reading at an elementary-school level. For some, difficulties with literacy can affect nearly every part of life — filling out applications, understanding paperwork, finding employment, managing appointments, reading instructions, and so much more.
Our goal is not to judge where someone is starting.
Our goal is to meet them where they are and help them move forward.
We want every student to know:
It is never too late to learn. It is never too late to grow. And it is never too late to begin a new chapter.
Literacy, Life Skills, and Faith
Trulight Ministries’ Literacy Program is faith-based, which means our students are learning much more than reading and writing.
Faith is an important part of the journey.
Students strengthen their literacy skills through activities that include:
- Bible reading
- Bible memory verses
- Reading Eggs
- Interactive educational games
- Reading and writing exercises
- Encouragement and one-on-one support
These resources help make learning enjoyable while allowing students to build confidence at their own pace.
Reading God’s Word is also incorporated into the program because we believe education can open doors, but Jesus Christ provides the hope and transformation that changes lives from the inside out.
Four New Tablets Made Possible Through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation
We are incredibly grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for helping make this program possible.
Through their generosity, Trulight Ministries was able to purchase four brand-new tablets dedicated specifically to our literacy students.
Each student is able to use a tablet during the program to access Reading Eggs and other interactive learning resources.
Technology gives our students another way to practice reading, recognize words, strengthen comprehension, and celebrate progress in an engaging environment.
We are thankful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for investing in adult literacy and helping organizations like Trulight Ministries provide new opportunities in our community.
Thank You to Our Literacy Team
A special thank you goes to Ericka Stewart, our Literacy Program Manager, whose dedication and compassion are helping turn this vision into reality.
Ericka works directly with our students, encouraging them as they learn and helping create a welcoming environment where adults can improve their literacy skills without embarrassment or judgment.
We are also grateful for Brady Misencik, our college ministry intern, who faithfully serves alongside the program and provides encouragement and support to our students throughout their journey.
Programs like this are possible because of people who are willing to invest their time, patience, compassion, and faith into the lives of others.
Please Pray for Our First Four Students
We ask our church family, supporters, and community to please keep our first four literacy students in your prayers during the next 15 weeks.
Every milestone matters.
Every new word read matters.
Every sentence understood matters.
Every Bible verse learned matters.
Every bit of confidence gained matters.
And every life touched matters.
We look forward to celebrating their progress throughout the program.
Future Literacy Classes
Our first class is currently limited to four students so that we can provide the personalized attention each participant deserves.
As students complete the program, we plan to open enrollment for additional literacy classes.
If you know an adult in Zanesville or the Muskingum County area who struggles with reading and would benefit from a caring, supportive, faith-based literacy program, we would love to hear from you.
Please contact Trulight Ministries to learn more about future enrollment opportunities.
Education Opens Doors. Faith Gives Hope.
At Trulight Ministries, our mission goes far beyond meeting immediate physical needs.
We want to help people take meaningful steps toward a better future while reminding them that their circumstances do not determine their worth or their potential.
We believe education opens doors, faith gives hope, and Jesus Christ is the True Light who changes lives.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
Please continue praying for our students, our Literacy Program team, and all those who will participate in this program in the future.
A new chapter has begun at Trulight Ministries — and we cannot wait to see what God does next.
